Where is the race?
The race is anywhere you want it to be. Your neighborhood, the park, your favorite hiking trail, the swimming pool, the gym, you name it. It can also be at the grocery store, or any of the other places you do all your normal walking every day. 10,000 steps on your FitBit is more than a 5K!
When is the race?
The race is during the entire month of May for Lyme Disease Awareness Month. Register now and complete your race before the end of the day on May 31st! When you finish, show us some love on Facebook and submit your results here. We’ll get your finisher’s medal(s) in the mail!
What’s a virtual race?
A virtual race is one you register for online and then complete in real life anywhere you want during the designated time frame, which is the whole month of May in this case. Race solo or get a group of friends together to make it even more fun! Submit your results online and then wait for your medal(s) to arrive in the mail!
How far is a 5K?
A 5K is 3.2 miles.
How can I measure my 5K?
There are tons of free apps that can help you do this! MapMyRun is a good one for areas where you’ll have service. You can also take advantage of the social media features. See, like and comment on what your friends are doing! For trails, there are great websites/apps like Hiking Project or Mountain Bike Project that will show you a route and let you know how long it is before you go.
Does it have to be a 5K?
Is 5K a lofty goal? Break it up into smaller distances over the course of the month! Wanna go farther than 5K? No problem!
Do I have to run?
Nope. You can walk, bike, elliptical, hike, swim, ride a train… Think of something fun and creative and get out there!
Do I have to complete it all at once?
Nope! As long as you have 5K (3.2 miles) in total by the end of May, you’re good! Mix and match distances and activities too!
Can kids do it?
Absolutely! Feel free to break up the distance and/or switch it up with different activities to keep them interested and going.
What do I do when I’m done?
Where does my money go?
All proceeds go to benefit the National Capital Lyme Disease Association.
